- Document Best Start 11 Nov 2025
Members heard that the Best Start in Life Strategy was focused on early years (ages 0-5) and aimed to reduce inequalities and improve school readiness. It was noted that the development of the Best Start Hubs aimed to integrate health, education and parenting services and that the first Hub was planned for Leigh Park by April 2026. With regards to the Families First Programme, this programme transforms children’s social care by integrating early help and statutory support and there was emphasis on multi-agency safeguarding.
The Panel welcomed the proposal for Local Offer Live events in 2026 which would showcase SEND and family services to raise awareness, empower families and support with parenting through difficult stages of transition in young people’s education.
Officers agreed to provide updates to the Panel on developments anticipated within the coming weeks.
RESOLVED:
That the Education Advisory Panel notes the presentation.
- Document 2025-11-19 EAP Presentation - AI in Schools 11 Nov 2025
Members noted some of the benefits of AI including reduced time spent on administrative tasks (freeing up staff to spend time teaching and interacting), the ability to personalise learning and create unique resources. The Panel also noted some of the risks of AI including safeguarding, being mindful of data privacy and discussed some ethical considerations.
Members noted the UNESCO AI competency toolkit and the DfE’s guidance for schools on AI implementation. Officers were supporting schools in a variety of ways including establishing an AI steering group which consisted of teams from across primary, secondary and FE and included the AI leader at the University of Southampton.
Members welcomed the developments and discussed the importance of exercising caution using AI and also being aware of the environmental impact. Members were keen to receive a follow-up report in 2026.
