In response to Members’ questions, it was noted that:
· A multi-agency approach was being led by Children’s Services to support Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASCs). UASC presentations from the 2024 Virtual School sessions were available should Members wish to review them.
· Children with no ideology could present in schools as lacking a sense of identity or belonging, feeling disconnected, spending a lot of time online and lacking a sense of place or purpose. These young people could be referred to as Mixed, Unclear, Uncertain or Confused (MUUC).
· Training was available for schools regarding holding conversations with young people with neurodiversity who could have increased vulnerability.
· It was essential that staff in schools and educational settings felt confident in having open, meaningful conversations with children and asking questions with sensitivity to each child’s unique circumstances. Equally important was the need to triangulate information between school and home, ensuring that all parties were engaged and aware of any signs or changes in a young person’s behaviour.
RESOLVED:
That the Education Advisory Panel notes the presentation.
- Document 2025-06-18 - EAP - Guidance to support schools in managing lockdown procedures 10 Jun 2025
In response to Members’ questions, it was noted that:
· Reliable and timely communication channels were crucial during unexpected situations to ensure accurate messaging and to prevent the spread of misinformation. While schools should have established communication protocols in place, Members acknowledged the challenge of controlling the narrative on social media, where incorrect information could quickly circulate and be difficult to contain.
· All settings, including nurseries and pre-schools were required to have lockdown procedures in place.
RESOLVED:
That the Education Advisory Panel note the presentation.

Funding had been secured to support this initiative and to engage potential future employers. Members expressed interest in receiving further details so they could share the information with Local Enterprise Forums.
